Hong Kong Budget Travel Guide for 3 days and 2 nights – TIPS for Filipino tourist at P15K

TRAVEL EXPENSES, TRAVEL GUIDE, BASIC TO KNOW before going for Hong Kong Trip.

As an ordinary employee, my salary usually goes for the rent, insurance, transportation, meal, allowance for toiletries, grocery, for my family, others just like you. I currently work in a bigger city which is in Manila where expenses are higher compare to the province.

My earnings are not that much so traveling seems like a luxury and I’m sure most of you can relate. But having money constraints won’t stop me from exploring and living my life to the fullest. Even if I do not have the financial luxury, I still have the freedom and time TO MAKE IT HAPPEN instead of only working 8AM-5PM desk job 5 days a week.

Hong Kong is always a good start for first timers abroad. THOUGH IT’S REALLY EXPENSIVE, It’s been popular for Filipino tourists for quite some time. A lot of OFW Kababayan are working there. In this blog, I would like to share how I manage to budget my Hong Kong trip and how it was so special to me.

It’s special because I saved for it as a gift for my mom’s 50th birthday so we can have our passports get stamped together. After all, she has sacrificed a lot. Maybe soon in the future we can travel abroad as a family once my siblings get to have a stable job on their own.

A.) AIRFARE & AIRPORT PROCESS/TIPS

Below are my expenses. Separate and additional airfare if you’re coming from province or different city.

For my mom,
Davao-Manila Round-trip cost around PHP 1, 800.00 all in via Promo Cebu Pacific airline But if you are only coming from Manila, you only need to book directly for Hong Kong.

•Manila-Hong Kong round-trip via Cebu Pacific x 2 Cost: Php 4, 347.17 per person. I suggest you book for low-peak season like June to September to get cheaper airfare. I booked on October 2016 then our travel date is August 2017 because it’s close to my mom’s birthday.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR TRAVEL…

•Prepare also for Travel Tax NAIA= PHP 1, 620.00 x 2 =PHP 3, 240.00. You will pay this once you get to the departures area prior check-in.

•With your boarding pass, head towards the immigration area for international flights. REMEMBER you need to be at the airport at least 4 hours before your departure time to give ample time for long queues and possible delays or changes. It’s better to be early than to be in a hurry. (You have to secure budget for your airport transportation and food expenses)

We know that Immigration officers are intimidating. Now just confidently present your passport, ticket & boarding pass. Prepare your company ID or COE if you are employed, hotel voucher & your itinerary in-case the officer wants to see them. Hong Kong is VISA FREE. Once your passport is being stamped, you need to go through the security before heading toward your assigned boarding gate number. Be always attentive on your flight number.

In NAIA Terminal 3 boarding area, there are food and shops around while waiting for your plane.

B. ACCOMMODATION IN HONG KONG

Hotel in Metro Manila = Php 3,400.00 all-in including taxes private executive room for two PAX/3 nights. We stayed in Tambayan Hostel in Malate. I booked via Booking.com. This hostel is popular for backpackers.

During our Hong Kong trip we stayed in Hotel 36 located in Prince Edward, Kowloon for 2 nights. It’s a budget hotel but always fully booked. The accommodation would depend on your choice and budget.

You can look for hotel listing via online Booking.Com, Agoda.Com, Traveloka, or AirBNB. Budget staycation ranges from PHP 700.00 per person or PHP 2,000.00 approx. per room for a night. Be careful to read the terms and conditions. Some hotels do not charge much, some have hidden charges. Good thing, some of them offer free cancellation online or pay at the property upon your stay. Having a Credit/Debit is useful for online booking.

Let’s RECAP what you need.

  • Manila-Hong Kong Airfare Roundtrip:  PHP 4, 347.17 per person
  • Travel Tax: PHP 1, 620.00 per person
  • Hotel in Hong Kong: Php 1, 700.00 private room for 2PAX/Night X 2 nights

TOTAL AIRFARE + ACCOMMODATION: Php 7, 667.17 per person

Photo: My mom at Hong Kong International Airport (It’s so huge! You’ll be surprised that you will have to ride a train within the boarding gates.)

TIP: Always have a small sling bag or accessible travel organizer with you containing the travel docs such as passport, ID, ticket, travel itinerary, boarding pass, hotel voucher because you will have to present these at the Immigration area every now and then. A small bag which can fit also your cellphone, essentials and wallet.

ADDITIONAL TIP…

When you book airfare & hotel early, you still have time to save for your allowance. 🙂 Also, bring extra dollars & credit/debit card in-case of emergency!) Please notify your bank prior travel date before using your ATM card.  I did this to avoid any hassle.

I bought HKD through PHP before our flight so we can have cash already upon arrival in HK. Then I had my other cash in USD, ATM debit/credit card with me too. You can also have PESO changed in Hong Kong airport. However, the exchange rate at the airport is sometimes not good. 1 HKD = Php 7.00 (Approximate).

The allowance for food and shopping will depend on your budget. In our case, I prepared Php 14, 000.00 for the two people (3 days) which includes our transportation costs, meals in 3 days and shopping or pasalubong.

For the outfit, you can wear any comfortable clothes depends on the month. Comfy shoes is a must for there will be a lot walking.

•We went to Ladies Market and Temple Street Market in Mong Kok

•We went to Avenue of the Stars and Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui
